In early 2008 FT Gearing Systems opened a new state of the art temperature controlled lapping facility employing the latest diamond lapping techniques which are far superior processes to traditional lapping methods and are capable of achieving 1 light band flatness of gear faces down to .01 UM surface finishes and matching gear sets to within 1 micron of each other. All surface finishes and geometric tolerances achieved are electronically printed and stored as a record for each part produced.
The faces are checked to a mirror finish to 1 lightband of flatness which equates to .000012" using calibrated Optical flats and monochromic light sources.
